Home Inspiration || Exterior

Although our house is old, a canadian flipper bought the place, fixed her up- turning the garage into the third bedroom and closing in the patio to create additional space which has become our entryway/music area. I initially wanted a house with all the old touches but, to be completely honest, everything in our neighborhood was either a piece of shit money pit or way our of my price range. I quickly began to realize that this house, though not my dream home, would be an amazing starter home for us as we grow into a family and it was quite a deal for our neighborhood (being in the neighborhood was the one thing i for sure wanted and did not want to sacrifice on). Since it's lacking in the old touches, I've decided to depart from my traditionally grandma chic style and turn our home into a retro modern haven. The flipper painted it with a pretty sweet, somewhat modern color scheme- grey-y beige with black shutters and a pretty blue door- so we are off to good start.

Our house has no patios. Ya hear that?? Honestly it's my one biggest complaint. I love love love being outside. So I'd like to make a slat wall out front to create a small shaded patio right outside our front door.
We re-did the landscaping at the house. Apparently mister Canadian flipper was a bit unaware of  our desert landscape and made some silly mistakes- like planting dessert plants in grass. We decided we would rather use our water to grow food and planted cactus and other desert plants in the front- again, not my usual cottage look but a smart move I think. We planted some cactus like these on either side of our large window. I can't wait till they grow big.
I eventually want to get a more sleek front door. This one is sexy.

I'd love to do something like this to bring some color and texture to the back yard.
Gotta have a cozy backyard.

Home Inspiration || More living room

If you follow me on Pinterest you probably already know that most of the things I've been thinking about lately are home related. I showed you some of my inspiration for our living room, inspiration for our bedroom and I've continued to collect inspirations. It's coming along slowly but surely but we definitely need furniture. We also definitely need to get rid of some junk. And by we I mean me. SIDENOTE: Trev's pretty much a no frill, only the basics kinda guy- he's the type that could probably,definitely create a pretty damn good life living in the middle of the woods, into the wild style (without dying). But me, I have so much shit. So many chotchkies and collections and things I think I can't survive without. Bleh!

So anyways, this shows the basic layout of our space.... you know, without that crooked wall and stuff. what makes decorating a bit difficult is that the living room space is pretty large. It is definitely nice to have the space but somewhat difficult to create a cozy room. Any ideas or pointers? It's so exciting to have so many possibilities but a bit overwhelmed too. Here are some (more) spaces that inspire me : )

Hmmm maybe I should paint it white? Also, I'm in search for the perfect hutch so if you've got suggestions give me a holler.

Home Inspiration || Bedroom

I seriously can't stop thinking about decorating this damn house of mine. Pinterest and design blogs only make it worse. And since we are lacking the funds to do all the things I want to do I am basically torturing myself on a daily basis. I've decided to focus most of our energy at the moment on the living room and our bedroom and let the other rooms kinda fall by the wayside for the time being. I've been meaning to take some photos of the place to post on here but.... It'll happen eventually.

Here are some bedrooms that really get me goin. Just lovely.

We have one long wall in our room that I would LOVE to wallpaper in this.

Six Things Phoenix Might Probably Need I think

Phoenix has really come quite a long way and it's getting cooler and cooler each day. I mean, I'm totally stoken on Filmbar, we've got the awesome market, lots of good coffee shops, the lightrail zippin through, and food trucks running rampant. Here's some other stuff I think we might probably need.

A super cute flower shop.
Flower Girl, NYC.
To turn the old buildings into hip, multiuse living spaces and storefronts, restoring the original architecture. (ie: not tearing em down to start from scratch and not letting aASU snatch em up to build parking structures on. And P.S. we don’t need any more new, stucco, blah places k? Why build from scratch when we've got architectural gems standing empty?)
Luhrs Building, Downtown Phx.

An awesome bakery or two.

Babycakes, NYC.
More vegan restaurants and options (maybe a vegan ice cream shop or something rad like that, eh?).

Yes, this Cheesy Mac and Rib sandwich is vegan. Mmmm.

KindKreme, LA.

Greenspace.

Unpack a park. Whaa? RAD.

Some cool boutique hotels.

Hotel San Jose, Austin, TX.

This all reminds me of the old argument- which came first- the rad downtown? or the rad folks inhabiting it? Do you invest time and money into it hoping the right folks will stumble upon it or do you get the right people's interest before you invest?

What are some things you LOVE about your home town? What are some things you'd like to see different?

Crafting a Meaningful Home

I found this video the other day and just thought it was so lovely.

It's from Meg Mateo Ilasco and showcases her new book Crafting a Meaningful Home: 27 DIY Projects to Tell Stories, Hold Memories, and Celebrate Family Heritage. She's the author of Craft, Inc and the Craft, Inc Business Planner, which are both super helpful and awesome. I want it.

Happy Saturday!

Though I've been in my little casa here for over a month, I've still had unpacked boxes cluttering the living room. I hate when my house is a mess- who wants to come home to a disaster after a long day of work?

Luckily, today I got a ton done. Cleaning- check! Organizing- check! I even had time to do a little thrifting. I feel so accomplished  : ) What did you do today?
